FVWM: mouse button conflict with gnome

I am running fvwm under gnome (ubuntu), and most things work correctly,
but the left and right mouse buttons are somehow overridden by gnome, and
I can't figure out how to let them be controlled by fvwm. Only the middle
mouse button works normally. I have looked in gconf-editor but can't
find anything there to allow me to unbind the mouse buttons within
gnome-session. Perhaps there is a way to help fvwm regain priority. The
relevant mouse bindings from .fvwm2rc are given below. --Jim

# some simple default mouse bindings:
# for the root window:
Mouse 1 R A Menu MenuFvwmRoot Nop
Mouse 2 R A Menu MenuFvwmWindowOps Nop
Mouse 3 R A WindowList

# for the title bar buttons:
Mouse 0 1 A Menu MenuFvwmWindowOps2 Close
Mouse 0 2 A FuncFvwmMaximize
Mouse 0 4 A Iconify

# for the titlebar buttons
Mouse 0 1 A Close
Mouse 0 3 A Menu MenuFvwmWindowOps2
Mouse 0 7 A MoveToPage +1p 0p
Mouse 0 5 A MoveToPage -1p 0p
Mouse 0 6 A MoveToPage 0p +1p
Mouse 0 8 A MoveToPage 0p -1p
Mouse 0 2 A Maximize ewmhiwa 100 100 # H V
Mouse 0 0 A Maximize ewmhiwa 0 100 # H V
Mouse 0 9 A Maximize ewmhiwa 0 1

Check gnome-control-panel for anything.

This doesn't have anything to do with FVWM. If FVWM can't bind the
key/mouse because something else (in this case GNOME) has stolen it, there's
nothing that FVWM can do about that until they key/mouse in question becomes
available.
