I just installed fvwm 2.6.5 on a new machine.

I do not have root or sudo privileges so could not install in the default location.

I used:
configure --prefix=/users/fpitteng/fvwm2
make
make install

I added /users/fpitteng/fvwm2/bin to my path.

All went well and I am able to run fvwm.

When I click the left mouse button I get the menu:
Builtin Menu
1. XTerm
2. Setup Form
3. Setup 95 Script
4. Issue FVWM commands
D. Desktop Menu
R. Restart FVWM
X. Exit FVWM

The "Xterm", "Restart FVWM", "Exit FVWM" and most of the items under "Desktop Menu->Applications" work.
But "Setup Form" and "Issue FVWM commands" don't seem to do anything.

None of my windows have any icons to minimize, or maximize. I can't move, resize, raise or lower windows and my /users/fpitteng/.fvwm dir is empty.

I thought I could get a basic config through the Builtin Menu, but am having no luck.

Any he

Do you have any kind of existing config?
If so, see if you are setting ModulePath.
Both of the items you say don't work use modules.

Otherwise, look in .xsession-errors to see if any error messages are
being generated.

That's right---no mouse bindings for those exist at this point.

Your ModulePath isn't set appropriately, most likely not relative to
--prefix. Having said that, it seems to work OK for me.

What does:

fvwm-config -m

print out?

Indeed, do you have anything under that path?
