Hey gang. I'll be eligible for GSOC this year. I recall that Thomas
has been interested previously, but did not get the application in or
did not qualify.

I'm not familiar with the fvwm source, but it's been my WM of choice
for about a decade, I work a lot in C, and have done a few very minor
things with xlib.

In any case, if you are interested, I believe the application for
organizations begins on Feb. 27.

Good to hear! It would be a good opportunity to bring new blood to the
maintaining team, wouldn't it?

I'm happy to act as both the main point of contact, and as a mentor.

Unfortunately, the GSoC rules still state that there needs to be at least
two people within a project who can act as a mentor (i.e., in case I die, or
leave, etc) -- and in the past, this has not always been possible.

Last year we did apply, but were unsuccessful.

So I shall set this up and try again for this year.

MK, I'd appreciate it if you'd search the mailing list archives for the last
time this was discussed, and to reference where I talked about potential
projects, etc.

I'm not quite sure what mentoring consists of, but I'm here.

Ah, that's great! Thanks. :) It consists of mentoring the student(s) with
their project in my absense, and vice-versa, should you wish to oversea some
project in FVWM.

Too slow.

See this thread and all follow-up threads:

The information therein still applies for 2012.

Too slow.
I've also signed up for the -workers list and am reading thru the
new project proposals thread, as a prospective grunt I will come up
with some feedback later this evening. :)

I believe they also promise a minimum of *two* students to each
organization, then scale up from there based on the number of
interested applicants.

Unfortunately we were rejected:

Thank you for submitting "FVWM" organization application to Google Summer of
Code 2012. Unfortunately, we were unable to accept your organization's
application at this time. We received many more applications for the
program than we are able to accommodate, and we would encourage you to
reapply for future instances of the program.

Best regards,

Google Open Source Programs

But that doesn't mean to say people wanting to work on FVWM need only wait
for GSoC.
